Read the article about Erden Eruç, a famous explorer. Đáp án đúng là Are sentences 30 - 33 ‘Right’ or ‘Wrong’? If there is not enough information to answer ‘Right’ or ‘Wrong’, choose ‘Doesn’t say’.

AN AMAZING ADVENTURE

Erden Eruç is Turkish but now lives in Seattle, USA, with his wife Nancy. In July 2012, he completed an amazing 5-year journey, becoming the first person ever to travel all the way around the world with no help from engines or sails. All he used were his own arms and legs, to cycle, row, and walk around the world.

His plan before beginning the trip was to climb the highest mountain on each of the six continents that he went through. Unfortunately, he was only able to climb three of them because of bad weather and money problems.

Erden spent a lot of his time on the trip rowing his boat. His journey across the Pacific Ocean took 312 days. Being alone for that much time was not at all easy, but he kept busy by listening to music and studying Spanish. He took dried food with him and had a water machine to make fresh water out of seawater. However, it only worked on sunny days.

Erden is sure he will have more adventures one day. But at the moment all he wants to do is rest, think about his trip and spend time with Nancy.

A VERY CLEVER FAMILY

The Smiths are possibly the cleverest family in the country, and now the youngest member, ten-year-old Charlotte, has won a national spelling competition to add to the family's successes. Charlotte is the youngest ever winner of the National Young Spelling Bee Competition – the youngest winner before her was her older sister, Helen, who won it when she was eleven.

Charlotte and Helen’s older brother, Mark, is also very clever. Mark finished school early and went to university at the age of fifteen, three years before most young people start their university studies. The children’s parents, Charles and Vivien, are both teachers and say their children’s success comes from working hard, playing hard and following strict rules about homework and bedtimes.

‘Other people think that Charles and I don't let the children have any time to relax and play, and that we're always making them do their homework. But it's not true!’ says Vivien. ‘We have lots of fun time in the family. But there's a time for fun and there's a time for work, and we make sure the children understand that work comes before play.’

When Charlotte took part in the spelling competition the whole family, including her grandparents, went to watch her. Helen took off a day from school – the first day in her life that she missed going to school. ‘I felt bad about missing school,’ Helen said, ‘but I think it was important to Charlotte that I was there.’

Lucy missed the bus, so she arrived late at school.

💡 Lời giải chi tiết:

Đáp án đúng là B

Câu gốc: “Lucy missed the bus, so she arrived late at school.”

Cấu trúc: [Mệnh đề nguyên nhân] + so + [Mệnh đề kết quả].

Khi viết lại câu, ta có thể đảo vị trí và sử dụng liên từ "because" (bởi vì) theo cấu trúc: [Mệnh đề kết quả] + because + [Mệnh đề nguyên nhân].

Chọn B. Lucy arrived late because she missed the bus.

A: Bị ngược logic nhân quả (Lucy lỡ xe buýt vì cô ấy bị muộn → sai so với câu gốc).

Choose the sentence (A, B, C, or D) that is closest in meaning to the one provided.

Chọn C. She was very happy when she won the contest.

A: Sai nghĩa từ vựng ("nervous" - lo lắng, bồn chồn).
